Police urge caution after rash of auto burglaries

MADISON – Madison Police are urging citizens to be cautious after a string of car burglaries over the labor day weekend.

MPD Community Relations Officer Teresa Taylor-Duncan said they received eight reports of burglaries on Friday, Aug. 30.  They occurred to vehicles in the Hillchase, Whitehall and Leathertree subdivisions.  She said none of the vehicles burglarized were reported to have been locked.

“Please remember to roll up your windows, lock your vehicles and double check to make sure they are locked before you go to bed each evening,” she said. “Do not leave valuables or weapons inside vehicles, even those parked in your driveway. Guns left in an unoccupied car are not protecting anyone. In fact, guns left in cars are an invitation to tragedy.”

The police are seeking help in identifying the suspects. “If you live in these subdivisions and have video security systems that may have caught the perpetrators or suspicious persons during the overnight hours of August 29-30, please notify Madison police and help us catch these thieves,” Officer Taylor-Duncan said.
