Jets thrash Huntsville, 49-0

HUNTSVILLE – The Jets took off early on their flight towards a 49-0 thrashing of Huntsville at Louis Crews Stadium at Alabama A&M University Friday night. With just two minutes into the first quarter Dylan Blackburn got into the end zone with a 35-yard rushing TD. It just got better for James Clemens (2-2, 2-0) in their second Class 7A, Region 4 win of the season.

For the Panthers (3-1, 1-1), it was going to be a long night.

With three minutes left in the first quarter, Jets quarterback Conner Cantrell connected Chris Hope for a 65-yard pass for a second TD. Jesse Rowe’s PAT was good.

The with mere seconds left in the opening quarter Cantrell completes another scoring pass, this time to Jonathan Hammonds, to put the Jets lead at 21 points before the second quarter could even get underway.

Cantrell had four touchdown passes for the night, the third coming in the second quarter with a pass to Dylan Blackburn. It was followed by a scoring pass to Chris Baker before the half.

By the half Cantrell completed 8-of-10 passes for 176 yards to give the Jets a 42-0 lead before sitting out the rest of the game.

Chase Starling later added a 4-yard touchdown run and threw a 54-yard scoring pass to J’Taveon Elliott.

Blackburn had nine carries for 168 yards and two touchdowns, covering 43 and 73 yards. Hope had four catches for 100 yards and two touchdowns for the night.

The Jets racked up 598 total yards, including 330 rushing compared to just 95 total yards for Huntsville during the game.

Jets Coach Wade Waldrop said he was very pleased with the way his offense performed. “It was a good win for us,” he said.

The Jets will host Florence (2-2) for a 7A Region 4 contest on Friday. James Clemens will encounter a Falcons squad coming off a 55-24 win over Bob Jones.

The Panthers encounter the Sparkman Senators in a 7A Region 4 contest on Friday. The Senators go into the contest with a 4-0 record after their 45-0 league win over Grissom.
