Partnership for a Drug-Free Community plans Recovery Resource Fair

MADISON COUNTY – A local agency will apply the format of a job fair to the invaluable assistance that health professionals can provide.

Partnership for a Drug-Free Community will host a Recovery Resource Fair on Sept. 24 at the partnership office, 2201 Clinton Ave. W. at the One Stop Shop of Community Services. The office is located at the intersection of Clinton Avenue and Seminole Street.

The event is free and open to the public. Participants can park across the street at Rocket City Credit Union.

The fair will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event’s slogan is “Come Ride With Us on the Road to Recovery.”

Approximately 24 treatment and service providers will attend the recovery fair. These professionals “will be available in one place to answer questions about the different types of services available locally,” Wendy Reeves, spokesperson for Partnership for a Drug-Free Community, said.

The Recovery Resource Fair coincides with National Recovery Month, observed in September.

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle has signed a proclamation stating the city’s support for highlighting those who are in disease recovery for substance abuse and helping individuals who are on the path to recovery.

“Starting at 5 p.m., treatment providers will have booths set up with representatives who can answer questions about the types of resources available in the area and how to access services,” Reeves said. “Attendees will have an opportunity to meet a peer recovery specialist and learn how she helps (place) willing participants into treatment.”

At 6 p.m., Pastor Dave Draper, a Partnership board member, will share his personal recovery story. Attendees also can participate in a question-and-answer session with Draper and a panel that is composed of representatives from available agencies that coordinate recovery resources.

Following the program, participants will have a chance to visit until 7:30 p.m. with the various resource providers who will offer reference information and guidance options

Some of the Partnership’s most active programs are Today’s Youth, Tomorrow’s Leaders; Health Fairs; Speakers Bureau; Take-Back Initiative for prescription drugs; Partnership Fun Day; Law Enforcement Coalition; and advocating for legislation that supports Partnership’s mission.
