Legionnaires donate to Boy, Girl Scout troops

MADISON – Madison American Legion, Post 229 recently presented donations to Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops that they support throughout the year.

“The post presented donations to the Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops we sponsor,” Post 229 Commander Larry Vannoy said.

Troop 201 accepted their gift during Madison American Legion’s monthly general membership meeting held at the Lunar Lodge on Eastview Drive Girl Scout Troop 926. A check was presented to them on Dec. 7, just before the Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day ceremony.

Post 229 annually sponsors Troop 201 and Girl Scout Troop 926. “These youth scouting programs have been invaluable to the post being able to honor and support our veterans,” Vannoy said.

Between the two troops, they reliably participate in several programs, including placing flags and wreaths in our city cemeteries and hosting flag retirement ceremonies, entertaining residents at Tut Fann veterans home, sending care packages to deployed troops and joining American Legion members in the community parade, Vannoy said.

In addition, Legionnaires in Post 229 are serving as merit badge councilors for a number of programs for scout merit badge.

Post holds general membership meetings monthly on second Thursdays at 7 p.m. in the Lunar Lodge, 740 Eastview Drive in Madison. Individuals interested in American Legion, Post 229 are invited to attend these meetings.
