Students spend day in enrichment activities while juniors take ACT

By John Peck, Madison City Schools

Tuesday was ACT testing day for juniors at Bob Jones and James Clemens high schools.

Due to the logistics of testing, the rest of the students spent the day in enrichment activities centered around volunteerism, a college visit, service in the National Guard, visiting a museum, independent study sessions and others.

Students had to sign up for their event ahead of time.

JCHS students opting for the “service day” option were bussed to Bob Jones, where students learned about volunteerism in communities particularly after storms.

The Army National Guard and Inside-Out Ministries set up learning stations with emergency preparedness tips, making flood repairs, mobile shower and tool trucks, emergency first aid lessons, and many others.

National Guard reps demonstrated equipment, including a bomb suit students could try on. Even BJHS Principal Sylvia Lambert donned the 75-pound suit with helmet.

It was a great learning day for students.
