Over 1,200 pounds of medication collected in “take back” event

MADISON – Over 1,200 pounds of old, unwanted medications were safely destroyed by area law enforcement after the Medication Take-Back on Saturday. The event was planned by the Partnership for a Drug-Free Community.
In Madison, the take-back event was staged at City Hall, where over 660 pounds of medication were collected.
Other locations were staged in Huntsville and Meridianville.

“Thanks to every person who dropped off medications,” Wendy Reeves said. Reeves is Executive Director of Partnership for a Drug-Free Community. “By participating, people are making an impact on the opioid epidemic in Huntsville, Madison, and Madison County.”

The Madison County Sheriff’s deputies collected 360 pounds at the CVS in Meridianville. Huntsville police collected 180 pounds in the Public Safety Complex parking lot on Wheeler Avenue.

At the three sites, police, deputies and DEA were joined by Partnership staff Ariel Massey, Jacqueline Carter, Ann Marie Martin, and Wendy Reeves, along with Dr. Karnita Golson-Garner, with Alabama Cooperative Extension System at Alabama A&M University and volunteer Madison Neal.
