Sparkman’s Girls Bowling Team Wins Second Consecutive State Championship

GADSDEN- The Sparkman High bowling team has done it again. For the second consecutive year and third time in school history the Lady Senators have won the AHSAA Class 6A/7A Bowling State Championship. The squad derailed Stanhope Elmore 4-0, 758-642 in the finals with scores of 209, 201, 183 and 165 to earn the coveted blue plaque symbolizing the state title.

The strong lineup anchored by Emily Lindsey, Jenna Webber, Angela Webber, Natalie Alsup and Kaity Alexander had little trouble reaching the finals by defeating Gulf Shores 4-0 and Southside-Gadsden 4-1 in the first two rounds to reach the finals against the Mustangs.

The Sparkman boys, defending Class 6A/7A state champs, came up just short of making it to the finals in the action held at The Alley Bowling Center. The Senators qualified for the final rounds, but were defeated by Hewitt-Trussville in the quarterfinals 1,223-1,380 for a 4-3 loss.

In the championships’ opening day action in traditional rounds, the Lady Senators were tops scoring 2,536. They were led by Jenna Webber and Emily Lindsey who finished one-two and were separated by just three pins with Webber taking the victory and earning the title of State Champion. She rolled a 588 series with game scores of 194, 224 and 170 while her teammate posted a 585 series and individual game scores of 227, 190 and 168. Finishing among the top eight and earning All-State honors was Natalie Alsup who was fifth with scores of 201, 188 and 156 for a 545 series.

The Sparkman boys finished the opening rounds second behind Hoover with a score of 2,673. In individual medalist standings, Sparkman had three bowlers finish among the top eight grabbing All-State honors. In fifth place was Zachary Swaim with a 613 series and games of 163, 222 and 228. In sixth was Alfonso Carrington III with a 563 series and games of 152, 227 and 184. Dalton Tolgo finished tied for eighth with a 552 series and individual game scores of 160, 189 and 212.
