Local Talent Earn Top Awards For 2022 All-State Softball And Baseball

MADISON- Post-season honors have flowed in for local softball and baseball players as several student-athletes have been named to the All-State Teams for 2022 by the Alabama Sportswriters Association. Included in the group of elite players were Emmah Wolfe of Bob Jones who earned the award of Class 7A Pitcher of the Year and Madison Academy’s Alex Wad who earned the honor at Player of the Year in Class 5A.

Rolfe, who will celebrate her birthday June 17 with the state honors, is a five-time First Team All-State selection and played her first varsity softball in the seventh grade while living in Alexandria, Ala. She recently signed with Auburn and will attend college with the aspiration of earning a degree in physical therapy. Her 2022 season would be a great career for most players. She tossed two perfect games and four no-hitters while posting a 28-8 record with two saves and a .087 ERA. She recorded 346 strikeouts in 193 innings pitched. At the plate, she batted .521 in 43 games.

Rolfe’s Bob Jones teammate Alexa Douthitt was also selected to the Class 7A First Team. The senior who signed with UAH was chosen as a designated hitter after batting .487 with 11 homers, 19 doubles and 48 RBIs.

On the Class 7A Second Team All-State is Sparkman junior infielder Cassie Reasner who is regarded as one of the top recruits among the class of 2023.

In Class 4A, the Madison Academy Mustangs were represented by senior MacKenzie Meadows who was selected as an infielder for the All-State Team.

In baseball, Alex Wade of Madison Academy was tabbed the Player of the Year in Class 5A and listed as a First-Team outfielder. Listed as the No. 1 outfielder recruit and fifth overall player in Alabama, Wade helped the Mustangs to the semi-finals of the state playoffs before falling to Russellville. He is known as a player who can run down strikes to the outfield and a superior arm strength that has been clocked at 95 miles per hour. At the plate, he was what most coaches would love to have lead the way as he can hit for extra base hits and draw walks. He also pitched for the Mustangs with a 94 miles per hour fastball.

Madison Academy teammates made the Second Team All-State as junior Matt Manley was selected as pitcher and senior William Burgreen made the elite squad as infielder.

In Class 7A, Sam Mitchell of Bob Jones was chosen as a Utility Player in the First Team lineup. The stellar player is a junior. Bob Jones super-sophomore Braden Booth was selected as pitcher for the Second Team and Noah Berry of James Clemens was selected the Honorable Mention designated hitter as a senior.
