Traffic alert: Trail of Tears Motorcycle Ride

If you have plans to travel along I-565 Saturday, you will want to be aware of when the annual Trail of Tears Commemorative Motorcycle Ride as it navigates through Huntsville, Madison and Madison County on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Event organizers are expecting up to 10,000 riders to participate. Drivers should expect delays from 9 a.m. until noon on major roadways and I-565.

Starting at 9 a.m., officers will shut down U.S. 72 East at Shields Road and Moores Mill Road to all westbound traffic to ensure riders make it safely through the area. As they continue westbound on I-565 to Mooresville Road, officers will temporarily close entrance ramps to the interstate. The procession will exit I-565 at Mooresville Road and arrive at Redstone Harley Davidson for a two-hour lunch break.

Road closures are expected to end by noon.
