Madison Senior Center moves and settling into new home at community center

MADISON – Madison Senior Center members now have a new home at the soon-to-open Madison Community Center at 1329 Browns Ferry Road, the former site of the Three Springs facility.

Center Director Levoneia Ayers and staff are welcoming members back after a brief closure for the center to move furniture and equipment.

“The center is beautiful,” Ayers said. “We have plenty of room to grow, create fun memories and establish new friendships.”

“Please be patient with us as we continue to unpack, organize, learn new software and plan programming while serving the wonderful people in our community. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. We hope to see you soon,” Ayers said.

During the relocation, the center has a limited schedule for recreational sessions. “We will be adding activities regularly so please register on www.myactivecenter. com to see what activities are open,” Ayers said. The staff looks forward to seeing current members and encourages other senior citizens in Madison to consider joining.

The center held a successful Open House on Oct. 18. “Tours were provided during that time, giving all attendees and staff the opportunity to share the endless possibilities that are to come at our new location,” Ayers said.

“Our first BINGO event at the Madison Community Center was a great success!” Ayers said. “With almost 50 people in attendance, it was so nice seeing everyone. A very special thank-you to our sponsor Oak Street Health Huntsville for hosting Birthday BINGO and caring for our members.”

Registration is open for Balance, Chair Cardio, Drumming and Chair Yoga on myactivecenter.com. Classes started on Oct. 23.

On Oct. 31, members can attend a spooktacular Halloween BINGO Bash, complete with prizes. The staff encour- ages everyone to dress in their favorite costumes. The ghoulish gathering will start at noon.

A stained glass workshop on Nov. 6 will run from noon to 2 p.m. Participants can learn basic techniques and create their own beautiful piece of art. The sessions are perfect for active adults looking to explore a new hobby. Fee is $40.

On every Friday, members can watch a popular movie from the past. Members can invite friends for “Friday Film,” and plan for a relaxing afternoon. The original “Ghostbusters” from 1984 will air on Nov. 1 from noon to 1:45 p.m. Members should register at myactivecenter.com. And popcorn is free!

“Be aware that the road is closed on the Balch Road entrance to Browns Ferry Road, and all traffic must enter through Gillespie Road,” Ayers said.

Madison residents who are interested in membership at the center can call 256-772-6242, email seniorcenterinfo@madisonal.gov, check out Facebook/ Madison City Senior Center or visit the new location in person.
