Limestone residents in Madison may have new polling place starting with August elections

MADISON – Residents of Madison in districts 1, 2, and 4 may have a different polling location for the municipal elections later this year.

The Madison City Council heard a first reading at the Jan. 27 meeting of a proposal to move the polling location for the Limestone County portion of these three districts to James Clemens High School.

The residents affected previously voted at Lamb of God Lutheran Church on County Line Road. The proposed ordinance cites traffic complications as the reason for the proposed change.

“Whereas in Ordinance No. 2011299 the City Council established a single polling location, which has been the Lamb of God Lutheran Church located at 11716 County Line Road, for portions of the City that are located in Limestone County, and said location has become insufficient for public convenience and traffic management,” read the ordinance.

The change would affect not only the upcoming municipal elections but all future elections.

“These voters that will be going to James Clemens will receive written notification in the way of postcards, and they will come out of Limestone County out of the registrar’s office,” said city clerk Lisa Thomas.

Madison Mayor Paul Finley thanked the school system for its part in the change, “The help comes from the school system themselves in allowing us to have a location that gives us the best opportunity for safety.”

This year’s municipal elections will take place Aug. 26. An interactive map for identifying your district and polling place is available at madisonal. gov.
