Volunteer on Oct. 3 and 4 for behind-the-scene view of Madison Street Festival

MADISON – The lifeline of Madison Street Festival or MSF depends on volunteering – starting with the steering committee that organizes the event. Residents of all ages can experience the festival up-close by volunteering on Oct. 3 or 4.

MSF “is the biggest and best party in Madison. Come be part of the magic. Volunteer today,” according to madisonstreetfestival. org.

The MSF Steering Committee asks residents to consider volunteering in a two-hour slot on Oct. 3-4. Festival areas with the most need for help will receive assignments of volunteers.

The JustServe.org group is recruiting and scheduling volunteers for the festival. JustServe.org is a free nationwide website that connects local volunteers with service opportunities. Organizations can post their volunteer needs, and volunteers can search for ways to serve.

To sign up for volunteering, visit madisonstreetfestival. org, and click the “Volunteer” dropdown menu. On the new page, click “Just Serve.” Select a time slot. Click “More Dates” or “More Opportunities” for additional time slots. Click the orange “Volunteer” button. Fill out the Google form.

Volunteer slots are available in two-hour shifts. Teams 1 through 4 will work on set-up on Oct. 3 for shifts at 10 a.m. to noon, noon to 2 p.m., 3 to 5 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m.

Then on Oct. 4, set-up by Team 5 will run from 6 to 8 a.m. Teams 6 through 10 will assist in areas during the actual operation of the festival during shifts at 7 to 9 a.m., 9 to 11 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 1 to 3 p.m. and 3 to 4:30 p.m. Volunteers in the final shift from 4 to 6 p.m. will help with take-down and clean-up.

Volunteers should arrive 15 minutes before starting a shift at the Volunteer Tent to receive assignment and instructions (and a T-shirt if needed).

The Volunteer Tent will function as ‘home base’ for the day. The tent will be located on Maple Street at Fellowship of Faith Church. All volunteers must report to the tent before their shift begins. Volunteers can return to the tent with any questions . . . or for a drink of cold water.

JustServe.org is provided as a service by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
