Rachel Entrekin posts great finish in Ultra Marathon
MAMMOTH, CALIF.- In what has been described as a race of survival, Rachel Entrekin not only survived the brutal athletic endeavor testing more than physical stamina, but also mental and emotional stress, the former Madison resident posted a winning time in the 2025 Mammoth 200-mile Ultra Marathon. The epic footrace through the eastern Sierra Mountains, starting and finishing in Mammoth Lakes, Calif., showcased the enormous world renowned talents of Entrekin who posted a female winning time of 46-hours, 50-minutes, 45-seconds. Not only did she earn the $5,000 prize for winning the 30-39 age division, the 34-year old came within two hours of being the overall winner by placing second among all finishers.
The overall winner was 37-year old Jimmy Elam. His time was 45:16.02.
Entrekin, a 2009 graduate of Bob Jones High, earned a degree in Exercise Science in 2012 from UAB in Birmingham and her Doctorate in 2016. She currently works as a physical therapist on what is called a travel contract and works out of Conifer, Colo. Her parents, Robin and Karen Entrekin still live in Madison.
The Mammoth is the world class race the feet, legs and ever-working mind must hold up against the remote surroundings of a trail that many times is unforgiving as one mistake can spell race disaster. Just the breathtaking natural beauty of the course surroundings can distract a racer to where a serious mistake can cause them to not only lose the race, but more importantly be injured to where the athlete’s best will come to an abrupt end.
Entrekin averaged 14:03 per mile in her race-winning effort. She finished nine hours ahead of the second finishing female and was 17 hours ahead of the second female finisher in the 30-39 age division. In other words, she dominated her competition as the race featured 92 participants overall.
