Optimist Club plays in basketball event
The Optimist Club of Madison men's basketball league has been invited to play in a special, one-night championship event in Huntsville on Tuesday, April 15.
The SportsMED Night of Champions will be held at the Berachah Gymnasium on Sparkman Drive. Madison league division championship teams will face similar championship teams from the city of Huntsville's men's basketball league in the first ever meeting of the two leagues.
Old Skool will represent the A Division, while Asbury will represent the B Division.
"These leagues have never faced one another and its going to be great to see how each league represents itself against some great competition from another league," said Herschel Jordan, director of the Madison league and coach of the participating teams.
The B Division game will tip off at 6:30 p.m., while the A Division game will get under way at 8 p.m. SportsMED is providing T-shirts for each player and team trophies for each division champion. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.
A special local celebrity news media 3-point shooting contest will be held between games. The contest will feature numerous members of the local media from television, radio and print. Admission to the general public is free.
