Workers concerned leadership changes will effect them

By Staff
The recent meeting of the City Council and Mayor Jan Wells was also attended by a considerable number of city employees, many of whom have been hearing rumors about possible reorganizations and layoffs.
But city employees wanting to hear an answer on their future will have to wait. All Mayor Wells would say is that she has been working for six months on a plan to make more efficient use of existing personnel resources.
"We want to try to get more out of what we've got. We're exploring ways to make departments more efficient," Wells said.
The mayor said she was not yet happy with her plan and was not ready to share it with the council. She said she was looking at the way publicworks is organized and indicated that she was considering implementation of a management structure in that department.
Councilman Marc Jacobson said he wanted to learn more about the mayor's plans.
"I know zero about what the mayor is doing," Jacobson said.
Wells did not give the council a specific date as to when the plan would be complete.
