History comes alive at Madison Elementary

Madyson Jones had a day as princess as Princess Diana.

Fifth graders at Madison Elementary got a sneak peek back in time.

The school hosted its annual Living History Museum on April 14. The fifth graders selected biographies, and dressed as their chosen person.

After reading their chosen book and doing research, they created projects to present to the younger students.

“Nobody leaves the fifth grade at this school not knowing what a biography is,” said Library Media Specialist Debbie Cox.

Cox said they projects does more than just improve reading skills and teach history lessons.

“They kind of get inspired,” Cox said. “They discover things about themselves.”

Many of the students selected their famous people based on their own interests.

Christian Burks chose Hank Aaron.

“I’m a Braves fan and he’s done so much for the game,” Burks said. “It’s amazing what he’s done.”

Madisyn Jones got a chance to be a princess with her costume as Princess Diana.

“I loved she was a princess,” Jones said. “I love that her favorite color is pink. My favorite color is pink.”

Other students selected their topic based on their heritage ties.

David Lee chose fellow Korean, Dong Keen Park, the man who introduced Tae Kwon Do.

“I picked him because he inspired me to take Tae Kwon Do,” Lee said.
