Local restaurateur holds world record

The New York transplant opened Famous Joe’s Pizzera, located at 12120 County Line Road, this past December.

Joe Carlucci of Famous Joe’s Pizzeria & Ristorante in Madison competed against pizzaiulos, or pizza makers, from Italy and around the globe in Naples, Italy, the birthplace of pizza.

At the Campionato Mondiale del Pizzaiuolo Napoli (World-Wide Championship of the Pizzaiuolo in Naples), Carlucci took the title as “Fastest Pizza Maker in the World,” pushing out five, 8-ounce dough balls into pizzas in 31.3 seconds.  In another close competition, he placed second in “Largest Dough Stretch,” a competition to create the largest pie in 3 minutes using a 16.8 ounce dough ball.

This title is Carlucci’s fourth world title. Carlucci also holds the Guinness world record for the highest pizza toss at 21.5 feet. Some of his other titles and accomplishments include the following:

* 1st Place – Best Gourmet Pizza, North America Pizza and Ice Cream Show – Columbus, OH 2010

* 1st Place – Best Gourmet Pizza, Roma Food Show – Hartford, CT 2006

* 1st Place – Best Gourmet Pizza, Northeast Pizza Show– Atlantic City, NJ 2005

* 2nd Place – Best Gourmet Pizza, North America Pizza and Ice Cream Show – Columbus, OH 2009

* 2nd Place – Best Classic Pizza – Elisabetta Pellegrino Campionato Internazionale – Lecce, Italy 2008

* 2nd Place – Best Pizza Overall, Northeast Pizza Show – Atlantic City, NJ 2005

* Voted Best Pizza – Danbury, CT 2000, 2001, 2007
