Smith named as new principal of Discovery Middle School

Dr. Robbie Smith has been named principal of Discovery Middle School.

Smith replaces long-time principal Sharon Willis, who has been in that position at Discovery for the past 11 years.

“I can’t wait,” Smith said about taking on the position. “I’m just bursting at the seams to get in there and get going.”

Smith previously worked as assistant principal and interim principal at Heritage Elementary School and has also served as assistant principal at Madison Elementary School.

That experience is what prepared her to take on the new role within the system, according to Superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler.

“Dr.  Smith as proven over the course of time that she’s an outstanding administrator,” Fowler said. “She has a very broad conceptual view of instruction and administration and I think she will bring many more of her talents to Discovery Middle School.”

Smith has also worked as a science and biology teacher at Arab High School, a guidance counselor at Danville High School, in the distance learning program as an assistant coordinator and was an assistant principal at Madison Elementary School.

“I’ve had such great experience here in Madison,” Smith said. “Mrs. Willis has done such an exceptional job at Discovery and the teams they have going on… it’s going to be a great situation to step into.”
