Mustangs face off with Brindlee Mountain Friday

Madison Academy might wish that only the second half of the season counted.

After two losses in the first three games, they have roared back and have picked off all comers on the way to a 6-2 record.

Sardis, who gave the Mustangs one of their two losses, is regional champ, but Madison Academy looks to show their improvement in the playoffs.

Last week’s thumping of Geraldine was a step in that direction.  The Mustangs only punted one, then scored on every subsequent possession.  Quarterback Hunter Olive had 198 yards passing, and the running game added to Geraldine’s nightmare.  It was a great night to be a Mustang, and everyone got involved:  Sophomore Logan Hamlett ran for 92 yards on 12 carries and made two touchdowns.  Freshman Blake Wimberly had a 46 yard touchdown run.  Marcus Sease added back to back touchdowns and Chandler Trach ran in another.  Their offense proved unstoppable for the visitors, and with no turnovers, the Lion’s defense did not have a chance to capitalize on any Madison Academy miscues.  Coach Eric Cohu has had his team focused from the beginning on winning it all and it seems to be coming together at the right time.  Next up is 2-6 Brindlee Mountain.

Last week, Brindlee Mountain team beat out-of-region rival Falkville 41-7.  Brindlee Mountain played sound, up the gut football for four quarters and pulled off a good win, or at least it sounds like a good win, but let’s keep it in perspective:  Falkville is 1-7 and has fewer total yards offense than it does punting yards.  Last week’s game was nothing like what Brindlee Mountain will be facing this Friday and with the resurgent Mustangs on their doorstep, the Lions may get trampled.
