Moss Leads Bob Jones over Sparkman in hoops

By Lindsay Vaught

The first points of the game were a hint of things to come for recent Murray State signee Jeffrey Moss of Bob Jones. The 6-foot-5 guard made a steal, drove the length of the floor and punctuated the play with a slam dunk to give Bob Jones a lead they would not relinquish.

Bob Jones pulled away and had a 32-16 lead at halftime. They increased the lead to as many as 20 points in the third quarter and won 50-33. Bob Jones is now 4-0 and Sparkman is 2-2 in regular season games.

Sparkman could not find the range in the first half and shot below 20 percent as the Senators had trouble penetrating the zone defense of Bob Jones.

All the shots were falling for Moss as he was nearly perfect on the night. He hit a driving bank shot, a long range jumper, and a driving jumper all in the second quarter and he led all scorers with 12 and the half. He finished with 17 points on eight of nine shooting. He also had five assists and four rebounds.

Bob Jones coach Danny Petty said that Moss is just now getting in basketball shape.

“Playing Sparkman we don’t have to tell him to get up for the game. We did a good job of getting in our offense and getting him the ball. We want him to look to score,” Petty said.

Reggie Ragland was also in double figures with 10. He also led the Patriots with 9 rebounds. The Patriots had their biggest lead at 38-18 after a 3-pointer by Moss.

Sparkman’s leading scorer Devin Hankins was held in check shooting only three of 10 from the field. Sparkman cut the lead to 11 in the fourth quarter on a Lamonte Turner 3-pointer.

Bob Jones boys and girls teams are in action at Huntsville next Tuesday.
