Bob Jones girls 57, Austin 33

The new number one ranked Lady Patriots were led by Tierra Jones who had 11 points, all in the first half as Bob Jones built a 31-14 halftime lead.

Jasmine Jones had 7 points before taking a seat early in the third quarter. China Leary had 10. Meredith Lovelady, recently called up from the junior varsity, played the second half. She did not score.

With Austin using a sagging defense to stop Jasmine Jones, Tierra Jones made the most of her opportunities. Tierra Jones hit one three pointer and shot a high percentage around the basket.

“We got some girls that can hit some three’s,” head coach Tim Miller said after the game. “Jasmine’s presence on the floor loosened things up for Tierra. That is when she plays her best when teams concentrate on Jasmine.”

“We want to stay sharp during the holidays and keep getting better so we can make another run at it in January,” said Miller.

Bob Jones is moved into the top spot in the ASWA poll last week coming off the heels of the one point win over previous number one Hoover.

“That’s nice. The girls have earned it because they have worked so hard. We don’t really concentrate on rankings. We just want to get better,” Miller added.

Bob Jones will host the Huntsville Times Girls Tournament starting Dec. 21 through Dec. 23.
