PTSA forming for James Clemens High

Representatives from Madison City Schools have formed a chartering committee in an attempt to form a Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) at the new James Clemens High School.

Sonja Griffith, PTA president at Discovery Elementary said every school in Madison has PTA and Bob Jones High School has a PTSA. When James Clemens opens this fall, the chartering committee plans to have the PTSA up and running.

“There are certain steps, guidelines and protocols that have to be followed,” Griffith said.

There are three subcommittees involved in the process: a nominating committee, a bylaws committee and a communications committee.

The nominating committee that will propose a PTSA officer board to include the following positions: president, vice president of volunteers, vice president of communications, vice president of membership, secretary and treasurer.

Anyone interested in serving in one of these positions must fill out an application found online at Jchs.madisoncity.k12.al.us/.

The applications should be turned in to the Madison City Schools’ Central Office by April 6. The slate of officers will be proposed by April 16 and will be voted in at the charter meeting on April 19 at Central Office. Memberships will be available at this meeting for a cost of $8 per adult and $5 per student.

The membership forms are also available on the James Clemens website. You must be a member to vote on James Clemens PTSA officers.
