Holcombe running for District 1 seat

Madison District 1 Councilman Tim Holcombe announced his intention to seek re-election to the Madison City Council.

“We have made tremendous progress the past three years under the leadership of Mayor Paul Finley and a committed city council,” Holcombe said. “I continue to be excited about the opportunities that lie ahead for Madison.”

Holcombe is president pro tempore of the Madison City Council, and his committee assignments include liaison and board member of the Madison Chamber of Commerce, liaison and board member of the Madison Street Festival, liaison to the Madison City Board of Education, the Madison Fire Department and the city’s Legal Department.

Holcombe stressed accomplishments by the current administration, including the recruitment and development of the Shoppes of Madison shopping center, the completion of a new high school, the completion of the new fire station Number 2, numerous road and bridge projects, construction of the Bradford Creek Greenway and a new dog park, as well as the beginning of the downtown redevelopment.

Many new personnel have been recruited for the city, with five major appointments including a new police chief, planning director, parks and recreation director, public works director, and city attorney. He emphasized both the pro-active nature of the city’s management and the cooperation across city departments and City Council members as contributors to the significant progress that has been made, as well as a relationship with the Board of Education.

“I see two critical areas that will continue to need significant focus in the coming years: the continued development of Madison’s infrastructure, to include roads, bridges, sidewalks and bike lanes and the city’s continued recruitment of commercial development to support our tax base. With the current capital improvement budget almost exhausted, it will be incumbent on the new administration to find workable solutions to the challenges that lie ahead”.

Holcombe is the Marketing Manager for the SunDrop / 7 Up Bottling Company, who distributes soft drinks, water and juice products throughout a 12 county northern Alabama region, and has been employed in this industry for over 32 years. “As a sales and marketing professional myself, I see Madison with tremendous potential, since we have a great community to sell.”

Holcombe has been married to his wife, Sharon for 32 years, who is a teacher in the Madison County school system, and she has a total of 33 years teaching experience. He has a son, Daniel who recently graduated from Auburn and a daughter, Rosalie, who recently graduated from the University of Montevallo.
