Adam Lee Ventress, a 17-year-old sophomore, drowned in Elk River in Fayetteville, Tenn. Sunday.

Madison County Schools spokesperson Geraldine Tibbs said a link in the Madison County School family has been broken.

“We are deeply saddened by Adam’s death and know that he will be missed by the Sparkman High School family and all that knew him,” Tibbs said in a statement. “We extend sincere sympathy to the Ventress family and want them to know that our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

She said Superintendent David Copeland and the Madison County School family stand ready to assist the Ventress family in any way possible.

“We pray for strength and comfort during this most difficult time,” she said.
