Toe-tapping, finger-snapping sounds, moves ready for Madison Street Festival
Classic rock, country tunes and lively choreography will fill the entertainment stages for the Madison Street Festival (MSF) on Oct. 6.
Entertainment chairpersons for 2012 are Rhonda Fox, Lynne Chadwick and Dawn Drewnowski. Last year, they organized the MSF parade and for several years volunteered with Panoply Arts Festival.
“We’re very happy to be MSF volunteers again this year and hope to see you on Oct. 6,” Fox said.
Bands, ensembles and soloists will perform at the Madison Gazebo on Front Street. “Norfolk Southern Corporation is graciously sponsoring the Track/Church Street Stage, located between Animal Trax and the railroad tracks,” Fox said.
Opening the gazebo lineup, Dennis Brock with New Song School of Fine Arts will bring students skilled in instrumental and vocal music, dance and drama. The Thumbless Hitchhikers describe itself as “a jam band specializing in groove-based, booty-shaking and epic roots-based jam funk.”
With twins Josh and Jarred Lipscomb, This Side of 49 performs at festivals, restaurants, coffee shops and theaters across the Alabama, Mississippi and Florida Gulf Coast. Three longtime friends in the Cheezee Band will rock out with dance, pop and funk charts.
Crossfire sticks with classic rock with charts like “Smoke on the Water” but adds some funk with “Word Up.” A Madison band, Stand Up Chuck leans to sounds of John Mellencamp, Tom Petty and Pink Floyd.
On the Track/Church Street Stage, Jazzercise Dancers will open with their electrifying moves. The Madison Senior Center Line Dancers then will have the audience clapping their hands to the rhythms. Dance Trance will be in sync with their high-energy routines.
Irish dancers with Fitness Arts Center will show their craft. John Isom of Harvest will share his country songs at the Church Street stage. A Madison favorite, Dorothy Cole of Decatur will reprise her Tina Turner tribute revue. Another country artist, Ragen Ivey will sing his popular tunes.
Fox, Chadwick and Drewnowski may add entertainment acts closer to Oct. 6. “We may have a couple of surprises but don’t want to let out any details at this time,” Fox said.
