Radio-control planes to race Saturday

The North Alabama Radio Control Association (NARCA) will host the 40 Pylon Radio-Control Airplane Race on Aug. 18.

NARCA will host a radio-control airplace race in Harvest on Aug. 18.

“If you have never seen model airplanes race around pylons at 60 to 80 mph, then it is time to schedule a visit to NARCA’s airfield to watch this event on Saturday,” publicist Cliff Lanham said. Pilots will register from 8 to 9 a.m. with the first heat flying at 9:30 a.m.

The daylong event is free to spectators. “Bring the kids and stay a few hours to watch skilled RC-plane flights,” Lanham said. NARCA’s airfield is in Harvest on Carroll Road, .5 mile north of Harvest Road.

RC pilots will travel from major RC plane clubs in Alabama, Tennessee and Georgia to compete.

Pilot who want to compete can call Ernie Duffie at 256-714-3176 or Tim Batt at 256-656-4723. For more information about NARCA, call Lanham at 256-325-3775 and send email to clanham@knology.net.
