Municipal elections to be held Tuesday

Mayoral candidates Troy Trulock and Don Palmer.

Municipal elections are Tuesday, Aug. 28. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Absentee ballots must be submitted by Monday, Aug. 27. Registration for an absentee ballot ended Aug. 23.

Madison mayoral candidates are Don Palmer and Troy Trulock. Madison Mayor Paul Finley is not seeking re-election.

Madison residents will also vote for City Council members in six of seven districts. Councilman Tommy Overcash of District 5 is running unopposed.

Huntsville mayoral candidates are incumbent Mayor Tommy Battle, former Mayor Loretta Spencer and government watchdog Jackie Reed. Huntsville residents will also vote for City Council members, school board members and whether or not to renew a 6 1/2 mil ad valorem tax to benefit Huntsville City Schools.

The Huntsville Chamber of Commerce endorsed the ad valorem tax. The chamber said Huntsville City Schools cite 70 percent of the revenue being generated by the tax is paid by businesses.

More information about the elections, including sample ballots, is online at www.madisonal.gov/index.aspx?NID=198 for Madison City, www.huntsvilleal.gov/elections for Huntsville and www.madisoncountyal.gov for Madison County.
