HARVEST – Radio-control hobbyists and new recruits to the sport can attend North Alabama’s largest swap meet on March 23.

The North Alabama Radio Control Association (NARCA) will host its annual swap meet for radio-control model airplanes at Pineview Baptist Church at 5614 Hwy. 53 in Harvest from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., NARCA public relations contact Cliff Lanham said.

“The radio-control hobbyists can swap, sell and trade items that they do not want or buy the items that they are seeking,” Lanham said. “It’s a good fellowship time because we are doing what we enjoy.”

Epps Field on Carroll Road in Harvest, about .5 mile north of Harvest Road, serves as NARCA’s flying field.

“We’ll have more than 80 tables available for sale items,” Lanham said. “Vendors are welcome.”

Admission is $5. Individuals can rent tables for $8 in advance and $10 at the event. “Visitors can enjoy door prizes, food and fellowship with other fliers,” Lanham said.

NARCA is an Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA) chartered club with about 35 members of varying ages. “Our flying site host has flown light aircraft from his private strip for around 40 years,” Lanham said. “He has graciously hosted us since 1993.”

NARCA members also vary in experience, but most have many years of radio-control skill. “We can help with most questions from a newcomer to the hobby, and we’re anxious to help,” Lanham said.

The club welcomes new members. Regular monthly meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

NARCA meets at the flying field during May, June, July and August. “Winter meetings are held at Star Market in Madison during September, October, November, January, February and March. The winter projects meeting is held in April at Pineview Baptist Church,” Lanham said.

NARCA will meet on March 14 at 6:30 p.m. at Star Market.
