Former MPD officer pleads not guilty in sexual abuse case

By Aldo Amato

Staff Reporter

MADISON — Madison Police had no comment on a former police officer of theirs who is charged with sexual abuse in Limestone County.

Maj. John Cooke said that the department felt it had no reason to address former police officer William Watson who plead not guilty to multiple sexual abuse charges on Monday.

“He is no longer with the department and has not been for months,” Cooke said. “So at this time it is out of our hands and the department is in no way involved with the case in Limestone County. He resigned from the force months ago and we are in no way affiliated with him.”

Watson was put on administrative leave in August of last year after Madison Police were notified by Limestone County about the charges. Watson later resigned from the department.

Watson’s trial is scheduled for April 29.

Calls to Capt. Stanley McNatt with the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office and the Limestone County District Attorney’s Office for comment were not immediately returned.
