MADISON — A new clock will soon be installed in downtown Madison thanks to combined effort between Madison Derby Days and the Madison Station Preservation Historic Society.

Dawn Johnson, chairman of the Madison Derby Days Committee, said that she is excited to see the clock that was purchased with funds from the 2012 Madison Derby Days.

“We are very excited to see the clock be installed,” she said. “It should be and I hope it will be before this year’s Derby Days.”
Johnson said the process of choosing the double-faced clock began right after Derby Days last year.

“After the last Derby Days, we met the next month to decide what to do with proceeds,” she said.”Several ideas came up and the clock won the vote.”

After the clock won the vote, Johnson and the committee approached the Madison City Council to accept the clock and request installation services. Johnson said that city agreed to pay for the installation and the process went smoothly.

Zoning Administrator Sherri Blair said that the clock is made by Berdin Design Group based out of Ohio and stands over 10 ft. tall from ground level. It will have a flower base around it.

As far as the design of the clock, Johnson said that the committees agreed on a design that would tie into the downtown area’s history.

“We voted on the two-faced clock design and it matches the era Madison Station was established in,” she said.  “It is going to be green with gold accent and we voted to put the words ‘Madison’ at the top.”

Johnson said that the clock has been shipped and is scheduled to arrive in the next coming weeks where it will remain with Public Works until it is ready for installation.
