MADISON – The City of Madison will present its first annual Spring Arts & Craft Fair on April 27.

Madison Senior Center at 1282 Hughes Road will host the fair from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Madison Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the event.

No admission will be charged to shoppers. Vendors can sell merchandise in a 12-foot square booth for a fee of $30, fair coordinator Gayle Milam said. Milam works as event and volunteer coordinator for the City of Madison.

Vendors will offer an array of goods, including baby clothing, heat wraps for the microwave, collegiate ornaments and wreaths and handmade soaps and lotions. “The fair will also have candles, rag dolls, fabric purses, totes, backpacks, hymnal book angels, hats, gloves, sweaters, stone crosses and handmade diaper bags,” Milam said.

Among the vendors, women at Madison Senior Center will have a booth and sell scarves, which they are both crocheting and hand-tying.

“We came up with the idea of making some hand-tied scarves for those ladies who didn’t want to crochet,” center interim director Vickie Parker said. Any member could participate because previous experience in sewing was not necessary to help with the project.

The crocheted scarves are made with specialty ribbon yarn. “Hand-tied ones are made from a mix of various types and colors of yarn,” Parker said.

Senior center members also are making embellished aprons, potholder sets and ball caps.

The senior center will use their proceeds to purchase more materials to continue making the scarves. Members will sell the scarves at the center after the fair.
