MADISON — A popular restaurant in Huntsville will no longer be providing service.

Watercress at Bridge Street Town Center in western Madison County closed its doors after just two years in the Tennessee Valley. The restaurant started from small beginnings.

Watercress began in a small house at 515 Fountain Row in downtown Huntsville. In 2011, the restaurant moved to the upscale Bridge Street Town Center off of Old Madison Pike. Representatives from Watercress did not return calls for comment though the line remains active at the Bridge Street location.

Restaurants at Bridgestreet have had a rough go lately. Ketchup, which was located across from the closed Watercress location, closed in 2009 after only one year in the shopping Center. Dolce, which was the previous tenant prior to Watercress moving in, closed after just three years. Both Ketchup and Dolce were owned by the Dolce Group.

The restaurant was popular for serving traditional southern food in an upscale, European-style atmosphere. Menu items included shrimp, steak and their famous watercress salad that featured watercress, arugula, green tomato relish,
bacon and creamy creole mascarpone dressing.

No plans have been announced if the restaurant will open in a different location.
