Keller Williams, Junior Achievement partner for Red Day 2013

MADISON — Keller Williams Realty of Madison hosted its annual Red Day on May 9.

The community event is held in honor of Mo Anderson, Vice Chairman of the Board of Keller Williams Realty, whose birthday falls on May 10.

“We celebrate it each Thursday the week of her birthday,” agent Keegan Mumaw said. “Whether it falls on May 10 or not, we always put this event on as one of our ways to give back to the community.”

This year, the agency is giving back to the community by partnering with Junior Achievement of North Alabama. All of the proceeds from the event went directly to help school children.

Leah Amos, president of Junior Achievement for North Alabama, said partnering with Keller Williams was a great experience.

“All the money we raised will go directly to the students in the schools and help bring those programs to our students,” she said. “Keller Williams have been amazing to work with. People don’t see the behind the scenes in making this work and it’s been phenomenal.”

Three main factors go into making a successful Red Day.

“We renew, energize and we donate,” Mumaw said. “So we always do different community projects and aim for those three factors.”

This year’s Red Day featured an array of entertainment and food like the “Food Fighters Bustaurant”, Douglas Hess art prints and the band “Microwave Dave & The Nukes” among other local vendors.

Last year, Keller Williams of Madison partnered with Habitat for Humanity.

“Last year we raised over $1,000 and it really helped them buy the supplies they needed to build locally,” Mumaw said. “We also picked up trash along Hughes Road one year so that the police department and the City did not have to do it. So any way we can help out the community locally is our mission.”

Mumaw estimated around 30,000 to 40,000 agents took part in the day of community service. For more information on how to help Junior Achievement of North Alabama, 256.533.4661.
