MADISON — The 1227 Hughes Road property that used to serve as the site for Fire Station No. 2 is still looking to be sold.

All bids to buy the property were rejected on May 28 at the Madison City Council meeting due to numerous requests.

“We are looking to re-advertise again,” Amy Bell with the Planning Department said. “So we will eventually be looking at new bids to be accepted.

The property is a zone R1A low density residential site ideal for a single family home. It is located directly across from Discovery Middle School and adjacent to the Hill Chase subdivision.

“We expect if a driveway would be put it, it would come in on the Harrington Drive part,” Bell said.

The property is immediately north of Harrignton Drive and consists of approximately .70 acres. The lot stands about 140 ft. wide.

Both Bell and Councilwoman Ronica Ondocsin said they hope to have new and more reasonable bids within the next four weeks.

“I would expect from between now and the July 8 city council meeting, we will have made progress,” Bell said. “By then we would have had 4 weeks time to re-advertise, collect new bids and present them to the council.”

Bell said at the latest, the council could hear new bids at the July 22 meeting. For more information, contact Bell at 256 772-2885.
