MADISON — The Vape On! electronic cigarette store along County Line Road in Madison has quickly become an alternative for those looking to ditch tobacco cigarettes.

Co-owner Tod Yarbrough said his business that sells supplies for electronic cigarettes has boomed in the few weeks it has been open.

“We’ve had a lot of people come throughout wanting to try it out,” he said. “I was a tobacco smoker for 30 years and started smoking these and gave up on tobacco forever.”

Yarbrough said there are plenty of advantages to smoking a smokeless electronic cigarette. However there is one reason he suggests longtime smokers should ditch their packs of cigarettes.

“A regular cigarette will have around 4,000 chemicals in it,” he said. “Some will be from the tobacco, the paper and some are created when you inhale. With an electric cigarette, you only have four chemicals that are for the most part harmless.”

Flavors like grape, strawberry shortcake and regular menthol are among the most popular fluids purchased. Of course with flavors like those, some may speculate that Yarbrough is appealing to kids.

That could not be further from the truth the new business owner said.

“People should realize that adults enjoy these flavors too,” he said. “Plus, we follow all of Alabama’s laws concerning smoking. No person under 19 years of age is allowed to purchase an item from here.”

Yarbrough said patrons are encouraged to sample flavors before they purchase them and he hopes to expand services provided at the store.
