With sunny weather helping the effort, contractors for the Alabama Department of Transportation began milling and resurfacing work along Old Madison Pike on Oct. 14. The stretch between Hughes Road and Slaughter Road will be repaved, according to the City of Madison.

This project is associated with the Alabama Transportation Rehabilitation and Improvement Program (ATRIP). Officials estimate 45 working days for the project.

Crews will be onsite between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Flagmen will direct traffic, and workers will be in the roadway. Workers will post reduced speed limits.

In addition, County Line Road milling and resurfacing began on Oct. 8. Contractors for the Alabama Department of Transportation will work to resurface the northern section of County Line Road between Mill Road to the northern city limits.

Also an ATRIP project, the County Line Road work has an estimated completion timeframe of 75 working days. Motorists should use caution and expect changing road conditions and potential delays due to possible lane closures and lowered speed limits.

For more information on these two ongoing projects, call the City of Madison Engineering Department at 256-772-8431 or email to jenny.spain@madisonal.gov.

The third Madison roadway receiving updates is Pension Row, just west of Sullivan Street. This street will be widened, and the drainage system will be upgraded to meet current standards.

Construction crews will work on Pension Row from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, weather permitting. Pension Row will be open to local traffic only with no through traffic during the construction period that started Sept. 24 and will continue until Jan. 10, 2014.
