Discovery math teams earn places in Muscle Shoals tourney
MADISON – Officials at the Muscle Shoals Math Tournament on Nov. 2 took note of skilled members of the seventh grade and pre-algebra teams from Discovery Middle School.
Discovery earned third place in Division 1 for large schools. The Panthers also captured third place among all 23 schools who brought seventh-grade teams, regardless of division, math teacher and team coach Julie Goldston said.
In individual awards, seventh-graders David Li took fourth place and Corey Tolbert earned fifth place. Other competitors were Joshua Byers, Justin Byers, Corbin Holland, Ange Long, Nickolas Mothersele and Chima Ugwuegbulam.
The algebra 1 team ranked in first place in Division 1, along with first place among all 22 schools with algebra teams, regardless of division.
Discovery students winning individual algebra 1 awards were Aditi Limaye, second place; Tony Tian, third place; Shantanu Kadam, fourth place; and Alan Grissom, seventh place.
Other competitors in algebra were Meenu Bhooshanan, Kim Dang, Warren He, Misa Ito, Sean Lee, Jane Newberry, Bernadette Parsons, Marshall Wu and Melody Zhang.
