Marchers, music set for Madison Christmas Parade on Dec. 14

MADISON – Santa Claus will make an early visit to town for the City of Madison Christmas Parade on Dec. 14.

The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. Parade entries will line up on Plaza Boulevard at Hughes Road. Rain date will be Dec. 15 at 2 p.m.

“O Christmas Tree” is the 2013 parade theme. Gayle Milam, the city’s special event coordinator, and the parade committee encourage clubs, organizations and churches to design and build a float or other displays for the parade.

“The Spectacular Sparkles Award will be given to the any entry that presents an outstanding display of lights or other type of illumination,” Milam said. The Elfin Magic Award will recognize the unit that best features children.

The group that shows the most enthusiasm during the parade will receive the Spirit Award. “The Director’s Award will be given to the best marching or walking group,” Milam said.

The unit with the best interpretation of the parade theme will earn the Mayor’s Award. The Parade Committee Award will indicate the best overall originality, creativity, appearance and uniqueness of decorations. Judges will review units at lineup and during the parade.

From Plaza Boulevard, the parade will proceed south on Hughes Road, west on Mill Road, south on Church Street and east on Main Street. Award winners will turn east on Front Street and go to the Round House for the awards ceremony.

Other units will proceed north on Sullivan Street, turn east on College Street and disband at Madison Elementary School. The route is subject to change.

At all times, adults must supervise and accompany all children in the parade, whether walking, marching or riding. All participants must follow the city’s parade safety policy.

Registration deadline for parade entries is Nov. 25 at 5 p.m.
