Heritage math teams compete online in Caribou contest

MADISON – The third- and fourth-grade math teams at Heritage Elementary School recently competed in the online Caribou Math Contest.

The Heritage students vied for honors against 84 on their peers from third- and fourth-grade classroom across the United States and 2,343 other peers globally.

Fourth-grader Emily Lee placed first in the country and 71st in the world. Third-grader Ava Penland earned third place in the United States and was in 197th place globally.

Tyler Nix placed took tenth place in the country and 320th in the world. Ashton Fronckowiak followed closely at eleventh in the United States and No. 373 in the world. Isabelle Robley earned twelfth place among U.S. competitors and ranked at No. 376 globally.

Nix, Fronckowiak and Robley all are fourth-graders.

“The other students had wonderful performances as well,” third-grade teacher and team sponsor Lee-Cassie Walls said.

The Department of Mathematics at Brock University in Ontario, Canada developed the Caribou competition for grades 3-12. For more information, visit brocku.ca/caribou.
