MADISON – Hogan Family YMCA’s outdoor swimming pool will have its grand opening on June 7.

“The 25-yard swimming pool has six lanes and a five-foot depth. The pool holds 120,000 gallons of water,” aquatics director Ginger Upshaw said.

Two play pools adjacent to the main pool allow for water fun without disturbing swimmers, lessons and classes. “The large zero-entry splash park features water toys including bubblers, water cannons, mushroom-shaped Rain-Drop water shower, water spouts and dump buckets for interactive play,” Upshaw said.

Twin waterslide flumes empty into a five-foot splashdown pool. Heated to 84 degrees, the pool has beach entry. Ample deck space is available for family activities.

The pool can accommodate swim meets, Upshaw said.

Madison Mayor Troy Trulock attended the pool’s opening to members on May 24. “I’m very thankful for Hogan YMCA in Madison and the support and services they provide to our citizens and community,” Trulock said.

“As a founding member and community organizer that helped in development of Hogan YMCA, I’m proud to see that it’s so successful today and is adding additional services for our citizens with a new outdoor pool,” Trulock said. “We need additional pool facilities in Madison, and I’m glad to see these expanded services.”

A grand opening pool party will be free to the public on June 7 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Children’s activities will include a moon bounce, face painting and balloon-animal artist.

Food vendors will be onsite. Door prizes will be awarded. A poolside deejay and Aqua Zumba will entertain.

“I’m looking forward to the grand opening of the much awaited outdoor aquatics center at Hogan YMCA,” board of managers chairman Steve Burcham said. “It’s family friendly with swim lap lanes for those that like to swim competitively.”

YMCA membership dues include pool privileges. Pool hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m. The pool is not open on a daily fee basis.
