Tucker Pearson earns Eagle rank with camp signage

MADISON – Tucker Pearson earned the Eagle rank because Scouting has greatly influenced his life.

“My father is an Eagle Scout. It’s just something my family has expected of me,” Pearson said. “My church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, also endorses the program. However, the choice … had to be made on my own.”

For his project, Pearson built speed limit and auxiliary signs for a local youth camp. He built the speed limit signs in wood but as exact replicas of highway signs. MindGear Labs engraved all signs.

Pearson and his work crew then constructed the signs at his home. His family used reflective paint for lettering. “For auxiliary signs, we burned them with a torch to make them look more authentic,” Pearson said.

On installation day, Pearson assembled seven volunteers to dig holes at the camp, attach signs to posts and set posts in the ground.

Pearson’s supply list included pressure-treated wood and reflective paint. They used shovels, gravel, posthole diggers, wheelbarrows, screwdrivers, nuts, bolts and washers.

“John Fellows was my project mentor. I would never have been able to even start my project without him,” Tucker said. “All Scouts in Troop 7676 were a huge help in my project success.” His troop leader is Nick Webb.

The signs “do look pretty nice, if I do say so myself,” he said.

Raised in Huntsville, Pearson attended Challenger elementary and middle school until moving to Madison after sixth grade. Now 16, he attends James Clemens High School, where he participates in the theatre program and Student Government Association.

Tucker’s parents are Boise and Bridgette Pearson. He is propulsion specialist team lead with NASA. She is a reading and math coach at Weatherly Elementary School. Tucker’s siblings are Colton, a James Clemens senior and also an Eagle Scout, and Haden, a Liberty Middle School eighth-grader.

The family moved to Madison “mainly for the better educational system,” Tucker said.

The Pearsons are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
