MADISON – Alisa Pasukh, Christine Tran and Sunny Tsai were the top winners among exhibited artists at the Student Art Tent, a venerable tradition for the Madison Street Festival.

Hundreds of students submitted their own designs from campuses of Madison City Schools, Madison Academy, St. John the Baptist Catholic School and Life Christian Academy, Madison Arts Council (MAC) member Heather Alvarado said.

Pasukh, a student at Columbia Elementary School, won in the elementary division. “This piece is well developed for the age of the artist,” Alvarado said.

Pasukh used “crayon to define the flowers petals that have been water-colored. The crayon makes each petal stand out. The size of the subject is very reminiscent of Georia O’Keeffe,” Alvarado said.

For the middle school division, Tran, a student at Discovery Middle School, designed a “piece that had a consistent image quality. All of the elements were tonally complimentary with well balanced imagery,” Alvarado said. “The artist’s style made it stand out.”

Tsai, a student at Bob Jones High School, created “a nice mixed media piece with excellent use of color. The face has an ethereal quality to it that pulls in the viewer,” Alvarado said.

“The placement of the flowers compliments the face and doesn’t detract from it. Tasi’s artwork showed well balanced composition,” she said about the high school winner.

Alvarado owns Heartstrings Photography (heartstringsphotosbyheather.com).

Madison Arts Council works with local art teachers to receive and exhibit the student artwork. MAC members volunteer to work at the tent during the festival.

For 2014, Redstone Federal Credit Union sponsored the Student Art Tent.
