HUNTSVILLE – A Tony winner, the next show in Broadway Theatre League’s season’s will be “Peter and the Starcatcher,” a prequel to the Peter Pan story.

The swashbuckling show won five Tony Awards in 2012 and was named one of the Top 10 Shows of 2012 by “The New York Times,” “The New Yorker” and “New York Magazine.”

Based on Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novel, “Peter and the Starcatcher” provides a back story of humor and fantasy for Peter Pan and his arch-nemesis, Captain Hook.

The cast takes a romp through the Neverland that audiences never knew. A poor, orphaned child, simply called ‘Boy,’ faces a sad and lonely world. However, his life is turned upside down when he meets Molly, daughter of famous Starcatcher Lord Astor.

Molly is on a mission to save the world and protect a treasure trunk from the evil and greedy pirate Black Stache. Travelling aboard the “Neverland” ship, Molly and Boy learn about love and friendship and forge an unbreakable bond.

Performances in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall at the Von Braun Center are scheduled for March 6 at 8 p.m.; March 7, 2 and 8 p.m.; and March 8, 2 and 7:30 p.m.

Tickets start at $17 for students and $37 for adults. For tickets, call the Broadway Theatre League office at 256-518-6155 or 256-551-2378 or visit the VBC box office. Also, call Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or visit ticketmaster.com.

“Peter and the Starcatcher” is recommended for 10-year-olds and older.

Jerry Damson Automotive Group is Broadway Theatre League’s 2014/2015 season sponsor. The show sponsor is the Starcatcher Society, the league’s new focus group that will help ensure that new Broadway productions continue in Huntsville.

Founded in 1959, Broadway Theatre League of Huntsville is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that provides professional live theater for citizens of the Tennessee Valley.
