HUNTSVILLE – On April 10-11, Huntsville Ballet Company will present “The Sleeping Beauty,” one of the most famous ballets of all time.

“This tale of witches, fairies, enchanted sleep and true love is celebrated the world over. The cast of characters and the beloved story will delight both young and old,” director of marketing Amy Price said.

Guest artists Sarah Pautz and Jayson Pescasio will dance the roles of Princess Aurora and Prince Florimund. Huntsville Ballet Company’s performance, featuring more than 80 dancers, stays true to the original Russian choreography with additional choreography by company artistic director Phillip Otto.

“Phillip Otto chose the ballet because of its enchanting and romantic appeal,” Price said. “It is also a personal favorite, because he and his wife, Huntsville Ballet School Director Rachel Butler, have both danced in the ballet throughout their careers.”

In conjunction with the production, The Women’s Guild of the Huntsville Ballet will sponsor the “Enchanted Sleeping Beauty Ball,” which will entertain children and parents on April 11 at noon in the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall’s lobby.

A photo opportunity will be available with Pautz, who is portraying Sleeping Beauty. After the event, guests will proceed in the Princesses’ Parade to the stage to meet Otto and costumed members of the Huntsville Ballet Company.

A reception will follow with light refreshments. The event will end with the 2 p.m. matinee of “The Sleeping Beauty.” Event proceeds will support community outreach programs and Discover Dance in Huntsville.

Show dates are April 10 at 7:30 p.m. and April 11 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. in the concert hall at the Von Braun Center.

Ticket prices range from $29.10 to $39.35. For tickets, call 256-539-0961 or visit online at huntsvilleballetcompany.org or in person at 800 Regal Drive in Huntsville.
