HUNTSVILLE – Animal lovers, especially cat owners, will have a treat when North Alabama Feline Fanciers presents their ninth annual Championship and Household Pet Cat Show.

The show will be held at the Jaycees’ Building, 2180 Airport Road SW in Huntsville, on June 13 from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and June 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

More than 100 pedigreed cats and household pets will compete for awards in several judging rings each day, publicist Kamara Bowling Davis said. Breeds in the show will include Maine Coon, Ragdoll, Bengal, Sphynx, Cornish Rex, Japanese Bobtail, Havana Brown, Savannah, Tonkinese and Kurilian Bobtail.

This year, the featured ‘guest’ will be the Lykoi, or werewolf cat. “This cat has received lots of media due to its unusual appearance” Davis said. These shorthaired cats do not grow fur around their eyes, nose and ears, giving the werewolf look. ‘Lykois’ translates as ‘wolf’ in Greek.

In 2014, North Alabama Feline Fanciers chose Challenger’s House as event beneficiary. “In 2013, gate sales were $300. Last year, we increased the gate to $3,000 without increasing admission,” Davis said.

Founded in 2001, Challenger’s House is a non-profit, no-kill cat rescue and shelter, which has rescued more than 3,700 cats and kittens. The facility regularly cares for 100 to 150 cats in-house, foster homes and PetSmart. Adoption fees and donations cover all their expenses.

Challenger’s House is located in Toney at 112 Tristian Road on six acres. For information, visit challengershouse.petfinder.com.

At the show, Challenger’s House will have cats that guests can adopt.

Admission is $5 for adults; $4 for senior citizens 65 years old and older and uniformed military; and $3 for children from five to 12 years old. Five-year-olds and younger will be admitted free.

Entry deadline for household pets is June 4. To enter, email to Laura Heineck at coonslady@aol.com.

For more information, call Davis at 205-412-4216 or email to Kamara94@hotmail.com.
