MADISON – At Madison Street Festival, Elia Peters’ signature brand of artwork has been accepted for Artist Alley’s juried art.

“Saucy Cats” is the name that Peters has given to her designs, which “focus around cats. My featured cat carries the namesake of my pet, Simon.”

Many of Peters’ designs originated in her native California. “I worked as an illustrator for 21 years with the Department of Defense, where I gained many of my skills. I started using inks as watercolors there,” she said.

“I have resided in Madison now for seven years and love this community,” Peters said.

All of her art originates as illustrations. “I create the original illustrations on my Macintosh computer and use it for all aspects of production,” Peters said. “The original black-and-white originals are then output on archival-grade paper and archival-grade paper mats, ready for framing.”

For some of her illustrations, Peters further enhances the designs with hand-painted watercolors that are made from inks. She sells this work as signed originals.

“I even have some print photographs of cats and original caricatures of ‘furballs.’ All of these types of artwork will be available at the Madison Street Festival,” she said.

Juried art in Artist Alley showcases the Tennessee Valley’s superior talents. Chairperson Kathy Lewis will welcome artisans with numerous categories of work, including sculptures, glass pieces, paintings, jewelry designs and novelty creations.

At the street festival, Artist Alley will be located off Church Street in a large, wooded lot just southwest of Madison United Methodist Church. Dennis Vaughn allows the festival to use his property.

In 2014, the “Best in Show” award for Artist Alley went to Shannon McMahan. Charles Henson took the “People’s Choice” award, given to the artist with the most votes by festival visitors. Nichole Brookus earned the “Best Display” honor.

Madison Street Festival’s date is Oct. 3, rain or shine. For more information, visit madisonstreetfestival.org.
