Veteran of the Week

MADISON – Michael Jordan entered the Alabama Army National Guard in 1982. He served as a pilot for UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters.

After basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., he completed flight training at Fort Rucker, Ala.

“I was stationed Birmingham and provided air support for the following: FBI Counter-Terrorist Team during 1996 Olympics in Birmingham; Counter Drug interdiction; Ranger Battalion, Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.; and multiple state emergencies including hurricanes, floods and tornadoes,” Jordan said.

In 2003, Jordan was deployed in support of Operation Iraq Freedom. He left the military at the rank of Pilot Chief Warrant Officer 3.

He was born and raised in Huntsville and moved to Madison in 1987. Jordan earned a bachelor’s degree in aeronautics from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. He now works as an analyst for IronMountain.

He is married to Susie Jordan, who retired as an elementary school teacher from Madison City Schools. Their daughter Annie is a junior at Mississippi State University, and daughter Ashley is a junior at James Clemens High School.

Michael Jordan is a member of the National Rifle Association and National Wild Turkey Federation and volunteers with the Madison Street Festival. He also works to build ramps for homebound residents with Care Assurance System for the Aging and Homebound (CASA) of Madison County.

For his hobbies, he enjoys spending time outdoors as he pursues hunting, fishing, making turkey calls and woodworking.

His parents are Wayne and Freida Jordan of Madison.
