Arthur W. Wolde, Sr. November 5, 1917 – October 12, 2015

Arthur W. Wolde Sr., age 97, a WWII Army Veteran passed away Monday Oct. 12, 2015. Born on November 5, 1917, in Astoria Queens County NYC, he was involved in many veteran’s activities and special events in North Alabama.
He was proceeded in death by his loving wife, Gladys Johnson Wolde in 2007, after 64 years of marriage. Also preceded in death was his dad and mother Henry and Letitia Smith Wolde of Long Island New York, a brother Herbert, one sister Eileen Oswald, a baby daughter Patricia, and one granddaughter Jessica Danette Howe.
Survivors include Arthur W. Wolde Jr. (Bill), Barbara Wolde Ransom and husband Ricky, Sue Wolde Carpenter and husband Doug, Terry Wolde and wife Vicki, seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and one sister in law Nita Johnson.
Mr. Wolde served as a deacon in several Baptist churches since 1959. He was attending Cross Point Church in Madison, Alabama. Mr. Wolde enjoyed the hobby of shell craft, but his passion was working with Veterans and promoting history through his book. Much of the proceeds from his book Ambulance Number Eleven was donated to the Honor Flight Organization. Often he was seen at the airport greeting veterans returning from the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C.
