MADISON – Students at Madison Martial Arts Academy are gearing up to host their third annual “Extra Life 2015” charity event to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

“Come join us for a day of gaming, and, if you’re up for it, try to last all 24 hours with us,” academy owner Russell Newquist said. Extra Life 2015 starts on Nov. 7 at 8 a.m. and will continue until Nov. 8 at 8 a.m.

Gamers are welcome to participate as long as they like. “Anyone can come and play for any amount of time they wish. We just ask that everyone either collect donations in your name or throw some money in the pot to join in the fun,” Newquist said.

Morning hours will cater to pre-school children. Older children will enjoy afternoon hours, while teenagers will dominate evening sessions.

“Extra Life originated in honor of Victoria Enmon, who was battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Her friends sent games to keep her spirits up during numerous hospital stays,” Newquist said. “In only two years, that group raised more than $300,00 for Victoria’s hospital.”

Last year, Madison Martial Arts Academy raised about $1,100 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. “Help us beat that total this year,” Newquist said.

Participants in Extra Life 2015 will be playing to help Children’s of Alabama, located in Birmingham and one of the hospitals in Children’s Miracle Network. Children’s has provided specialized medical care since 1911. With more than 2 million square feet, Children’s is the country’s third largest pediatric medical facility.

Since 2010, Extra Life has raised more than $14 million to help children’s hospitals provide critical treatments and healthcare services, pediatric medical equipment, research and charitible care. Donations are tax-deductible and 100 percent of proceeds will help children who are hospital patients.

Madison Martial Arts Academy’s address is 11156 County Line Road, Suite F in Arbor Crossings.
