Veteran of the Week

MADISON – Becky Juett Miller served in the U.S. Army from 1975 to 1981.

She entered in direct commission program as Second Lieutenant and was in the last class at Women Officer Orientation Training to serve in Women’s Army Corps at Fort McClellan.

Miller then entered Quartermaster Officer Basic Training and Food Management School at Fort Lee, Va. In 1976 at Fort Ord, Calif., she served as Logistics Officer with Combat Development Experimentation Command.

“I met my husband Dave at Fort Ord. We were married in December 1977,” Miller said.

In other assignments, Miller served with 101st Airborne Division and Eagle Support Brigade at Fort Campbell, Ky. “I served as Assistant G5 before pursuing motherhood and using my GI Bill,” she said. “I was honorably discharged at rank of Captain.”

In 1999, Becky and David Miller moved to Madison for his reassignment to PEO Aviation. “I was a happy stay-home mom,” she said.

She earned a bachelor’s degree at Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky and a master’s degree in agency counseling from Troy State University (Fort Rucker).

“After being laid off from Delta Airlines in 2008, I pursued my dream of writing and began daily devotions online,” she said. She authors Facebook/God’s Lemonade Stand and will publish a book this year.

Her husband, retired U.S. Army Colonel David P. Miller, works for Camber Corporation. Their sons Matt, 33, and Dr. Jon, 31, are both graduates of Bob Jones High School and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Matt is a First Officer with American Airlines. Jon and wife Amber live in Boise, Idaho; Jon is an emergency room doctor, and Amber is an ICU nurse at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.

A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Becky Miller leads Moms in Prayer International in Madison and is active in Tea Party political events. Her hobbies are “reading, writing, running, hiking, snow skiing, movies, freedom and Bible study,” she said.
